Timket “Epiphany” is one of the most important festivals in the Ethiopian Orthodox church. It commemorates Christ’s baptism by St. John in the Jordan River. Timket is celebrated two weeks after Genna (Ethiopian Christmas) and begins on the eve of the holiday with massive processions through the streets.
Day 1:- Jan. 12 Arrival in Addis Ababa. Overnight Hotel
Day 2:- Jan .13 Fly to Bahir Dar, visit the local market and Blue Nile Falls. Overnight Hotel
Day 3:- Jan. 14 Full day boat trip to visit the Island monasteries on Lake Tana and cross to Gorgors. Drive from Gorgora to Gonder. Overnight Hotel
Day 4:- Jan. 15 visit the castle compound, Debre Berhan Selassie church and Fasilades Bath. Overnight Hotel
Day 5:- Jan. 16 Fly to Lalibela, Visit two clusters of rock hewn churches. Overnight Hotel
Day 6:- Jan. 17 Full day excursion to Na’aktu La’ab or the rock church of Asheten Mariam on mules or by foot, return to Lalibela to visit the remaining group of rock-hewn churches. Overnight Hotel
Day 7:- Jan. 18 Fly to Axum, visit St. Mary Zion Church; stele compound; the ruin palace of Queen of Sheba and king Kaleb. Overnight Hotel
Day 8: Timket full day, attending main celebrations of the festival. Overnight Hotel
Day 9:- Jan. 20 Fly back to Addis Ababa, time for leisure and shopping. Overnight Hotel
Day 10:- Jan. 21 Full day city tour of Addis Ababa & in the evening we will have a farewell dinner and departure.
