7-DAY SIMIEN MOUNTAINS TREK

Day 1: Simien Mountain trekking to Sankabar

Transfer to the airport of Addis and flight to the medieval town of Gondar; explore the sites of Gondar, including a visit to the Royal Enclosure, with six castles and several other buildings.  Additionally, visit Fasilidas’s Pool, still used for Timket celebrations today, Ras Gimb Palace Museum and the Debre Birhan Selassie church, with the most famous ceiling in Ethiopia.In the afternoon, we head for the north through the high plateaus. The first mountain landscapes typical of the region are revealed little by little. It is by a beautiful trail that we join at the end of the day our first encampment of Sankaber. Overnight Camping

Day 2:  Trekking to Geech

Starting a beautiful day trek between Sankaber) and Geech. Begin your trek from Sankaber. The trail proceeds along the vast escarpment, first slightly uphill before starting a descent to the big waterfall of Jinbar, one of the park’s most amazing waterfalls. Keep your eyes open for Gelada Baboons, Klipspringer, and a variety of Endemic Birds. Crossing barley fields and climb through the giant lobelia to reach Geech (traditional houses with thatched roofs) a Muslim village in an Orthodox-majority region. Last effort before reaching a plateau and our camp at 3600M altitude. Optional trek to view point, Kedadit Overnight Camping

Day 3: Imet Gogo –Inatye-Chenck

Gradual rise on the vast plateau through the Afro-alpine meadow and giant lobelia to Imet Gogo (3926M) summit above the escarpment. This unique perspective rocky promontory that grants 360 degree views over the Semien Range and the playground of the Lammergeyer or Bearded Vulture. Along the ridge line and an impressive gorge, we could observe the walia ibex and, for the lucky one, the Ethiopian wolf. Descent into a valley before rising on the other side through curious rock formations and lobelia. Arriving at the top of Inatye (4070M), the first 4000m of the trip, offering a splendid viewpoint over the surrounding, plunging cliffs, deep valleys and small plateaus below that we would discover in the next two days … Last descent following the surges of up camp Chennek (3620M). Several colonies of gelada baboons inhabit the area. Overnight Camping

Day 4: Bhawit Pass- Mesha River –Ambiko

Long and beautiful day trek which first leads to the Bhawit Pass, at 4200M altitude. After going up a valley dotted with giant lobelia, passing by the collar below the top of the same name. From the pass, the view stretches all the surrounding reliefs including Ras Dashen (4543M), the highest point of the country, which could be seen in the distance. Long descent into a valley and across the terraced barley crops, before reaching the large village of Chiro Leba (3300M) and Mesha River (2750M). At lower altitudes, sisal and euphorbia emerge.  After crossing the river, last climb to reach our camp in the village of Ambiko (3200M). Overnight Camping

Day 5: Ras Dashen

With the help of our headlamps, wake up and get moving early around 4:30 A. M. The ascent to Ras Dashen at 4543M, the 4th highest peak in Africa. The rise is partly on a newly created track to open up a few mountain hamlets. Despite the track, the mountain landscapes are beautiful, dotted with giant lobelia. The last part of path requires the use of hands for the final meters. The final portion remains optional for those prone to vertigo. Beautiful descent, on the eastern slope, through the giant lobelia. Back to Ambiko to relax and celebrate! Overnight Camping

Day 6: Back to Chenek

Another early start from Ambiko. Back to Chenek camp where a vehicle will be waiting for you back to Gondar. Overnight stay on reserved hotel

Day 7: Flight back to Addis Ababa and departure back to home

After breakfast transfer to the airport and fly back to Addis Ababa, visit Mercato, one of Africa’s largest outdoor markets. Evening we will have fare well dinner in one of the Ethiopian restaurant for cultural dances from the different ethnic groups. Then transfer to the airport for flight back home.
