Dorze Tribe
The Dorze Tribe is on of the well known tourist attraction site in Ethiopia. Theย Dorzeย are a small ethnic group inhabiting the Gamo Gofa Zone of the SNNP Region in Ethiopia.ย They speak the Dorze Language. Certainly, is an Omotic tongue. Weavingย is a primary profession for a number of Dorze People. Further more, their polyphonic multi-part vocal music features a sophisticated use of hocket.
The Dorze of Southern Guge Mountain are unique. Their main village, Chencha, have special features such as 12 meter tall beehive Houses. With their flexible bamboo inner framework covered with fronds from the false banana tree. They are completely mobile. Their great height usually allows them to be inhabited to 60 years before they get too short for people to enter. The houses are divided inside between sleeping compartments for both people and large animals.
The village sits in the middle of false banana forest. The Dorze use the roots to make several varied food dishes. All distinctively flavored, including fermented bread. Which is buried and aged underground.ย Also, they weave rope and even make soap from the plant.
