Omo Valley

Omo Valley is undoubtedly one of the most unique places on earth. Because of the wide variety of people and animals that inhabit it. It is located in Africa’s Great Rift Valley. The region is full of cultural andΒ  Natural diversity.Β The Omo River travels for roughly 1,000 kilometers, coursing from South Western Ethiopia into Kenya, and draining in to Laka Turkana. Its bank support both forest and Savannah. And is home to population of Buffalo, Elephant, Lesser Kudu, Gazelle, Eland, Zebra, Colobus and Ververt monkeys. However, the main attraction of the Lower Omo valley is the people who inhabit the region.

The names of the ethnic groups vary. Their bodies reflects a wide and varied aesthetic culture. Not only as expression of beauty, but principally as demonstration of messages and signals expressed through scarification, paintings, ornamentation, and hairstyles. Many communities along the Omo Valley, with no other materials like paper or canvass on which to express their artistic impulses, practice body scarification. The Hamer women are beautiful, decorated with cowry shell necklaces, chest plates, beads and all sorts of homemade jewelry.
