Welcome to Ethiopia! Upon arrival, our representative will meet and transfer you to your eco-conscious hotel. Begin your exploration of Addis Ababa with a drive up to Mount Entoto for a magnificent panoramic view of the city. Descend to visit the National Museum, home to the famous ‘Lucy’ fossil—a link to our ancient past. Next, discover the Holy Trinity Cathedral, an architectural marvel built during WWII. Continue to the Ethnographic Museum, once the palace of Emperor Haile Selassie. Complete your day with a visit to Merkato, the largest market in East Africa.
Embark on a scenic drive to Bahir Dar, passing through the enchanting Entoto Mountain range and lush forests. Visit the Debre Libanos Monastery, founded in the 13th century. Explore the monastery’s museum filled with ancient biblical manuscripts and religious artifacts. Continue your journey through the Blue Nile Gorge, with a stop for lunch in Dejen, then proceed to Bahir Dar.
After breakfast, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Tana to visit the 14th-century Monastery of Ura Kidane Mihret, renowned for its stunning frescoes. In the afternoon, drive to Tis Isat Village to witness the Blue Nile Falls. (Note: Water volume may be reduced due to dam construction).
Overnight in Bahir Dar
Post breakfast, drive to historical Gondar, Ethiopia's Royal Capital. Founded in 1636 by Emperor Fassiladas, this city boasts numerous castles and churches. Visit the iconic Fasil Ghebbi (Royal Enclosure) and the beautifully painted Debre Birhan Selassie Church.
Travel to Buyit Ras in the Semien Mountains, exploring Ethiopia's only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site. Witness spectacular landscapes and endemic wildlife such as the Gelada baboon.
After an early breakfast, drive to Axum, a city over 2500 years old. Once a great empire, Axum is home to fascinating relics and the original Ark of the Covenant. Visit the St. Mary’s Church, Stelae Park, the tombs of King Kaleb and his son, Ezana’s Inscriptions, the Queen of Sheba’s Bath, her palace ruins, and the Axum Museum.
Begin your journey to Hawzen, stopping en route at the temple of Yeha and the rock-hewn churches of Tigray such as Adikisho Medhanyalem or Wukero Cherkos.
Explore the 5th-century Monolithic Churches of Tigray like St. Abune Yemata and Maryam Korkor. Discover the remarkable Abba Daniel’s Prayer Room before driving to Mekelle.
Drive from Mekelle to Dodom, starting after an early breakfast. This challenging journey takes you through a vast desert landscape to the base of Erta Ale. After dinner, commence a night trek to the volcano's rim, where you’ll camp and witness the world’s only permanent lava lake.
Descend from Erta Ale and drive to Hammedele. Explore the local area and interact with villagers in this modest settlement.
Overnight camping in Hammedele
In the morning, visit Ragad (Asebo), witnessing the traditional salt mining process. Explore the unique volcanic landscapes of Dallol and Lake Assal. Drive back to Mekele.
Drive to Lalibela, stopping at the vibrant markets of Alamata and enjoying lunch in Weldiya. Arrive in Lalibela by late afternoon.
Fly to Lalibela and explore its renowned rock-hewn churches, including the stunning Bete Giyorgis.
Visit the exquisite Yimrehane Kristos, a 12th-century church tucked within a mountain ridge. In the afternoon, visit additional Lalibela rock churches.
