Certainly, The National Museum of Ethiopia grew from the establishment of the Institute of Archaeology which was founded in 1958. The institute was founded to promote and facilitate the archaeological research mission.

Unlikely, the Museum is known for its most world class standard and truly a hidden gem! The first Human Being Bone of โ€˜Lucyโ€™ is the most famous exhibit in the Museum. Because, it is an early hominid. Aย display on “Selam” is recently added to the basement gallery. Selam wasย found between 2000 and 2004. This archaic fossil is estimated to date to 3.3 million years ago. Further more the museum offers much more with Ethiopian ancient civilization being one of the oldest in the world.

The National Museum of Ethiopia began to operate under the National Act. Hence, it provides protection and preservation for antiquities, and has legislative authority governing all sites and monuments throughout the country.The artifacts within the Museum span thousands of years. It includes some from its earliest days. A wide variety of artifacts are featured from sculptures to clothing art work. Both tradition and modern art are features well worth to visit.
