The Serengeti is famous for its enormous open plains, abundant wildlife and the Great Migration. Ngorongoro offers a very different experience, with wildlife concentrated within and around an impressive volcanic crater landscape. They are often combined because they complement each other extremely well.
Yes. The Serengeti is one of the key areas of the Great Migration, during which huge herds of wildebeest and zebra move through the ecosystem in search of fresh grazing. Their location changes throughout the year, so the itinerary should be planned according to the period in which you are travelling.
Yes. Tarangire offers a different landscape from the Serengeti and is particularly known for its elephant herds and impressive baobab trees. It is often included as part of Tanzania’s northern safari circuit together with Ngorongoro and the Serengeti.
Yes. Tanzania is one of the few destinations where a major mountain adventure can easily be combined with a classic African safari. After climbing Kilimanjaro, travellers can continue to national parks such as Tarangire, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti.
Very much so. Tanzania’s open landscapes and diverse national parks create excellent opportunities for wildlife photography. The Serengeti is particularly famous for large mammals and predators, while Tarangire offers elephants and baobab landscapes and Ngorongoro provides a completely different setting.
Yes. A safari and Zanzibar is one of the most popular combinations in Tanzania. You can spend the first part of your journey exploring national parks and wildlife before flying to Zanzibar for beaches, snorkelling, culture and relaxation. Tanzania’s official tourism board highlights both safari experiences and Zanzibar as major parts of a Tanzania journey.
